Pippali: Indian Long Pepper!

A little plant known as pippali, or Piper longum, is found across India’s tropical forests. The digestive, reproductive, circulatory, and neurological systems are all supported, and it has a special love for the respiratory system.

Commonly known as long pepper, pippali is the fruit of the plant (although sometimes referred to as the flower) and one of the most precious herbs in Ayurveda and Indian cuisine. Pippali tastes strong or spicy when it is dry. It calms the vata and kapha, and although though it is hot and pungent, pitta can tolerate it if taken sparingly and for a little period of time.

Pippali is a real pepper, however it has a much milder heat than most types of crushed pepper. It is energetic and intensely aromatic at the same time. When making stews or dals with fish, poultry, or vegetables, it makes a wonderful addition.

Long pepper has been used in cuisine for its hot and spicy flavour from the beginning of time. Black pepper and Chile pepper are less expensive and simpler to grow, hence they are less used in cooking. However, because it has a pleasant aftertaste and helps with digestion, those who recognize pippali’s benefits continue to use it in a variety of recipes, including some desserts.

Health Benefits of Pippali:

Controls Diabetes

The body’s blood sugar levels are significantly reduced by pippali’s excellent hypoglycaemic capability. Upon ingesting pippali churna, the beta-pancreatic cells begin to produce insulin. It aids in reducing the conversion of starch to glucose, which causes low blood sugar levels.

Protection from Infections

Since ancient times, the biological components in this fragrant herb have been employed to protect the body against numerous illnesses. Pippali is utilized for treating and repairing wounds in addition to eradicating bacteria and germs from the body because of its potent antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal capabilities.

Aids in Losing Weight

This pungent spice, which is praised for its all-natural fat-burning abilities, effectively detoxifies the body by eliminating AMA pollutants and lessens sudden hunger sensations and a longing for unhealthy meals. It boosts metabolism and helps the body lose weight more quickly by enhancing digestion and lowering the build-up of harmful cholesterol in the body.

Reduces Menstrual Issues

The hormones go haywire in the days before menstruation, which frequently causes PMS symptoms including mood swings, stomach cramps, etc. Since the beginning of time, pippali has been used to control the heavy menstrual flow and treat period cramps. During labor and even after to promote healing, ancient healers utilized pippali powder to stimulate contractions.
